Oral B Electric Toothbrush Guide
This guide on Oral B electric toothbrushes was created to give you everything you need to know on one page including a price guide. We have included a glossary of terms which are commonly used to describe these brushes so that you know what they mean. When creating this page, we discovered a few discrepancies of information. Where we were unsure we used information from the official Bruan Oral B website and where possible the manuals from the actual toothbrushes themselves.
We won’t tell you which model to buy but hope that the information outlined here will help you with your choice. Sometimes premium models are cheaper to buy than lower ones so you can grab yourself a real bargain. Check out the comparison guide at the bottom of this page which has updated prices.
Also included on this page is a list of current prices from various online retailers so that you can quickly find the cheapest price. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out where you can grab yourself an Oral B toothbrush for a very cheap rice.
Glossary of Terms
2D means that the brush oscillates and rotates. Oscillate means the bristles on the toothbrush head moves in one direction, then another in a rhythmic motion.
3D means that the head pulsates, oscillates and rotates at the same time. Pulsating means that the head moves backwards and forwards against your teeth at high speed which helps to dislodge plaque.
All models have been designed so that they can happily be placed back on their charging units after use without risk of overcharging. To keep the battery at its optimal level it is recommended that every six months it is completely discharged and then fully charge it again.
From 2000 and up the brushes have different cleaning options. They all start in daily clean mode and you simply press the mode button which is situated underneath the on/off switch to change to what you want.
- Daily Clean is the regular teeth cleaning mode
- Sensitive mode is the option to use if you have sensitive teeth or gums.
- Massage is used for especially sensitive areas like gums.
- Polish is an intense mode that helps to whiten your teeth and give them an extra sparkle. For best results use the special Pro Bright toothbrush head with this.
- Deep Clean sets the timer to clean for three minutes.
Use this table to help decide which toothbrush is right for you. On some of the models their are very subtle differences and sometimes they are from different suppliers. This is an exact price match from Amazon.co.uk so you can use it to find great deals.
Oral B Vitality
The vitality is the simple and most basic option in the Braun range. It has the lowest rotations, a simple on/off switch and a simple timer that buzzes after two minutes to let you know that your brushing time is up. The base is also the thickest and heaviest in the range.
There are a couple of different colour options and you can buy the base unit with the particular brush head that you want. The vitality is compatible with a variety of different heads including the new deep sweep so it lets you cater the toothbrush to your needs.
Oral B 600
The 600 gives you the option of having different coloured base units. There are a couple of blue options and also pink and black special editions. It comes with a pressure sensor to let you know if you are brushing too hard and an LED indicator that tells you if the battery is running low. It features the 3D cleaning mode which includes pulsations as well as rotation.
The Oral B 1000 has been discontinued from the range. You can still buy it at the moment but they won’t be around for very long. We don’t know for sure but assume that this is because the 1000 is virtually the same as the 600.
Oral B 2000/3000/4000
These electric toothbrushes have the same design as the 600 but each one is a slightly different colour to help distinguish which model they are. The 2000 comes with an additional gum care mode whilst the 3000 has that and a sensitivity mode.
The 4000 has the extra features plus a whitening mode as well. It also has a slightly different design to the previous models. In fact the only difference between this and the next model up is the wireless smart guide and the three minute deep clean option, so if you want most the functions of the 5000 but don’t think need the smart guide then get this instead and save yourself a few pounds.
Oral B 5000, 6000, 6500
The 5000 & 6000 have the same toothbrush functions and include a smart guide. The only difference is that the 6000 has Bluetooth connectivity that allows it to connect to a special app. The app can be used on Iphones, Android phones, the Ipad and some other tablets.
We have read a lot of reviews where people say they have bought the 6000 but don’t use the app. This is crazy! You are spending more money for a function that you are not using! If you don’t think you need a special app then get the 5000 model instead. It has the same toothbrush functions as the 6000 but is cheaper.
The 6500 also has Bluetooth connectivity to the special app and one extra feature which is tongue cleaning mode. It also comes in white or black. The black version looks spectacular.
