Foreo ISSA Toothbrush

And now for something completely different

On and off, I have been writing about electric toothbrushes and general oral hygiene for about 3 years. Over that time I have learnt a lot about oral hygiene and the technicalities of brushes.

Whilst innovations like Bluetooth technology and interactive apps that encourage you to clean your teeth have come along, the general look of a toothbrush has not changed a lot. Occasionally I will read about a designer or even an Afghanistan vet playing with the toothbrush design. I have even seen the most expensive toothbrush in the world.

While they might add a few flourishes here and there, generally most toothbrushes look the same. I know that might sound toothbrushist (or whatever the equivalent would be in the toothbrush world of racism) but while electric brushes may have different functions and different ways of cleaning your teeth, essentially they all look the same.

So you can imagine my surprise when I came across the ISSA toothbrush with an amazing design. To say that it took my breath away, is something of an understatement. Look at it. Have you ever seen anything like that before?

When I clicked on the advert and read more about it, I had to smile. The designers of the brush said that they wanted to go completely back to the drawing board with their design and start completely from scratch, ignoring everything that had currently been done in the world of toothbrushes. Well looking at the ISSA, it is safe to say that they have achieved their goal.

Introducing the ISSA Electric Toothbrush

The first thing you notice is the bright colours that they come in and the funny shape. Next you can see that the entire model is made out of silicone. The toothbrush head is also completely different to anything else I have ever seen. There is also a smaller mini me type version for children which also has cool features. Adults with smaller mouths may also prefer this edition as well.

Foreo, the company who made the ISSA originate from Sweden and were honoured when they deservedly won the silver award in 2014 for ‘Design award for beauty, cosmetic product design’.

Marvelous Features as well

Not only does it look fantastic but it has some really unique features as well. The battery life on this thing is incredible and you charge it via a usb connector rather than the old antiquated shaver plugin adapter. Also, they say you only need to change the head once a year! No other toothbrush manufacturer can make that claim. The package also includes a snazzy looking travel pouch.

How much does this toothbrush cost? A lot! It is currently on sale for £150. In comparison, the DiamondClean by Philips retails at £250 but you can get the white version for just under £100 on amazon. I guess that the ISSA will drop in price soon if it gains more popularity.

So it looks great and has some fantastic features but does it work? Hopefully I can answer that question very soon. A full review will be here shortly.
